IdeaTek Expands Kansas Fiber Network

IdeaTek advances its two-state fiber expansion with a $3 million project in Goodland, KS, and a parallel ribbon-cut in Emporia for a larger $14 million push.

IdeaTek, the Buhler-based internet provider, is accelerating its $3 million fiber project in Goodland, Kansas, aiming to serve about 2,200 homes and businesses with a 100% fiber network delivering symmetric speeds up to 2.5 Gbps.

The build in Goodland is described as true fiber-to-the-premises, with construction nearing completion and first neighborhoods expected online in the coming weeks. The company says the project should wrap in about six months.

Separately, IdeaTek marked a milestone on Nov. 12 with a ribbon-cutting in Emporia, Kansas for its $14 million broadband expansion, which is designed to connect more than 10,000 locations as part of a broader regional deployment.

Across its footprint, IdeaTek lists ongoing projects in Atwood, Bird City, Oakley, St. Francis, Garden City and Wichita, among others. The provider says it has installed more than 7,500 miles of fiber and operates around 150 fixed wireless towers across Kansas, with a staff exceeding 220.

Co-founder and chief innovation officer Daniel Friesen framed the Goodland rollout as advancing the company’s mission of internet freedom, noting the lack of contracts to encourage customers to stay because they want the service, not because they’re locked in.

IdeaTek also emphasizes consumer-friendly features such as unlimited data and local customer support as it expands to more Kansas communities.
