GoNetspeed announced plans to deploy a 100% fiber network in Oneonta, marking its first Otsego County venture.

GoNetspeed announced plans to deploy a 100% fiber-optic network in Oneonta, New York, marking the company’s first deployment in Otsego County. The privately funded project carries a $4.5 million price tag and aims to deliver multigigabit internet speeds and improved reliability to local homes and businesses.

The Oneonta build expands GoNetspeed’s footprint in New York and the Northeast, with existing service already in Buffalo, Geneva, Lockport, and Utica, among nearly 30 other New York communities. The network is fully fiber with symmetric upload and download speeds, with consumer plans ranging from 500 Mbps to six gigabits.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the first connections possible as early as spring. “Oneonta has been left behind for far too long, it’s time for that to change,” said Chris Brooks, GoNetspeed’s senior director of operations. “By bringing 100% fiber internet to Oneonta, we’re providing the tools needed to support growth and economic development, starting with fast, reliable connectivity and a new choice that will improve life online.”

The project is described by the company as a step toward “future-ready” connectivity for the community and represents part of GoNetspeed’s broader strategy to expand fiber infrastructure across the Northeast, including in Buffalo, Geneva, Lockport, and Utica.

GoNetspeed notes it operates in eleven states and has been partnered with Oak Hill Capital since January 2021, a collaboration aimed at accelerating expansion into new service areas each year. The company positions itself as the Northeast’s largest independent fiber builder.
