GoNetspeed has begun construction on a 100% fiber network in Newport, Rhode Island, with a phased rollout planned to reach thousands of homes and businesses.

GoNetspeed has begun construction on a 100% fiber-optic network in Newport, Rhode Island, the company announced, with a rollout set to reach more than 8,200 homes and businesses.

The project is being financed with a $3.9 million company investment and a $9 million award from the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation’s Capital Projects Fund, highlighting a significant local infrastructure push.

First customers are expected to receive service in early 2026, with availability expanding neighborhood by neighborhood as work advances.

GoNetspeed is marketing symmetrical service options ranging from 500 megabits per second to two gigabits per second, ensuring identical upload and download speeds for households and businesses. Residents can pre-order and receive construction updates via the Newport page on the company’s site.

Richard Clark, GoNetspeed’s president and CEO, said the Newport deployment will deliver fiber capable of supporting education, telehealth, remote work, entertainment, and more, and frames it as a catalyst for local economic growth.

The Newport project follows GoNetspeed’s Northeast expansion trajectory; the company has been expanding since a 2021 partnership with Oak Hill Capital and completed a $7.6 million Danbury, Connecticut fiber expansion in 2025, expanding access to thousands of locations in Fairfield County.

By bringing fiber to Newport, GoNetspeed continues its push into Rhode Island, marking the company’s 10th state of operation as it accelerates its broader regional footprint.
