Fidium Unveils 8 Gbps with Wi-Fi 7

Fidium has announced a major upgrade to its fiber-to-the-premise network, introducing symmetric speeds up to 8 Gbps paired with Wi‑Fi 7 hardware. Rollout begins April 2026 in select markets.

Fidium announced on Wednesday that its fiber-to-the-premise network will be expanded to include symmetrical speed tiers reaching up to 8 Gbps, paired with next-generation Wi-Fi 7 hardware. The move raises the top residential speed from 2 Gbps to 8 Gbps and is slated to begin rolling out in April 2026 in select neighborhoods across Maine, New Hampshire, Texas, and California.

“We earn customers by delivering a superior product,” the company said, framing the upgrade as a response to rising device density, AI-driven workloads, cloud-based workflows, and high-resolution streaming.

Fidium emphasized that end-to-end fiber provides reliability and consistent performance throughout the home when paired with Wi-Fi 7, noting that its 8 Gbps tier represents a fourfold increase over the previous maximum and, at peak capacity, can be up to 120 times faster than typical cable internet.

Chief Marketing Officer Dan Sumner described fiber as offering a structural advantage over legacy cable networks designed for television rather than today’s internet-connected households, adding that the 8 Gbps service, combined with Wi-Fi 7, will support streaming multiple 4K or 8K videos, online gaming, dozens of smart devices, and cloud‑based tools without buffering or lag.

Availability details will vary by location as Fidium begins its phased rollout in fiber-enabled neighborhoods next April, with more markets to follow.
