Ibex’s Jon Carlson argues that a healthy ISP ecosystem benefits everyone, not just major corporations, underscoring how smaller providers shape communities.
In a recent interview, Carlson said that success for second- and third-tier ISPs is not only essential for these businesses but also for the people they serve, especially in areas that have “not had the access that they deserve.”
He emphasized that rural residents deserve choice and that when smaller ISPs invest in rural areas, the entire region benefits with improved connectivity and economic development.
Carlson acknowledged that growth realities for small ISPs often diverge from their growth ambitions. “It’s the mechanics of the day to day that actually allows growth to happen,” he noted, likening the approach to Kaizen—the idea of continuous, incremental improvement.
