Race Communications has begun building a fiber network in Bakersfield, aiming to bring high-speed, future-proof internet to over 50,000 homes and businesses in the city.

Race Communications has begun building a fiber-optic network in Bakersfield, California, the company announced, with the aim of delivering high-speed, future-proof internet to more than 50,000 homes and businesses across the city.

When complete, residents and businesses will have access to symmetrical internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second, and Bakersfield will join more than half of Kern County that is already served by Race’s all-fiber network.

Construction is underway, and Race expects the first Bakersfield customers to be connected by the end of summer 2026. “As Bakersfield grows, infrastructure that can support long-term expansion is essential,” said Jim Miller, Race’s vice president of government affairs. “We’re proud to extend our true fiber network to the county seat to deliver speed, reliability, and choice.”

Race, founded in 1994 and based in California, has invested more than $650 million in its all-fiber network across the state, with another $200 million slated for 2026. The company says it now serves more than 50 markets in California and continues to expand its footprint in the region.

Residents and businesses seeking construction updates or pre-sale service sign-ups are directed to Race’s official website for information and pre-registration opportunities.
