In a move to accelerate BEAD deployment, NTIA announced 20 states and territories have been granted short-term extensions to submit their Final BEAD Proposals.
Across the 56 BEAD eligible entities, NTIA said 36 had submitted their Final Proposals by the Sept 4 deadline, while 20 were granted extensions to come in over the coming weeks as part of the agency relocation process.
The agency also released a dashboard to track progress for each state and territory as proposals move through NTIA’s review process.
The states and territories granted extensions include:
- Alabama
- Alaska
- California
- Connecticut
- District of Columbia
- Florida
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Michigan
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- New York
- Oregon
- Puerto Rico
- South Carolina
Not yet submitted are South Dakota, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Utah.
NTIA Administrator Arielle Roth said that after years of delay progress is being made toward deploying BEAD projects and connecting Americans.
The Sept 4 deadline followed NTIA’s restructuring notice issued in June, which gave all 56 eligible states and territories until that date to respond. The agency also notes potential taxpayer savings of at least $13 billion thanks to private sector participation, higher matching commitments by subgrantees, and the use of innovative technologies to deliver high-speed connectivity.
