Cumberland Connect, the broadband subsidiary of Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation, launched free public Wi‑Fi at Meadowbrook Park and along Main Street in Portland, Tennessee. The ribbon-cutting event marked the official launch, supported by a Broadband Ready Communities grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

The Cumberland Connect, broadband subsidiary of Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation, announced the rollout of free public Wi-Fi at Meadowbrook Park and along Main Street in Portland, Tennessee. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 1:30 p.m. marked the launch, with local officials and project partners in attendance.

The public Wi-Fi initiative was funded through the Broadband Ready Communities grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and delivered by Cumberland Connect.

In addition to expanding internet access, the project includes a digital literacy training program conducted in partnership with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, with Sumner County providing resources and instruction to help residents build essential digital skills.

The Meadowbrook Park installation covers Meadowbrook Park and the Main Street corridor, aiming to boost digital inclusion, support economic development, and provide residents and visitors with improved access to online resources.

“Reliable internet access is essential for residents, visitors, and businesses alike, and we are grateful for the collaboration that made this project possible,” said Cumberland Connect’s leadership.

The Cumberland Connect initiative aligns with the company’s broader strategy to expand high-speed broadband access across its service area and foster community connectivity.
