Ars Live: Is the AI Bubble About to Pop?

Ars Technica's Ars Live program will host a live discussion on the AI gold rush, featuring AI critic Ed Zitron. The event explores whether the current AI hype constitutes a bubble and when it might burst.

Ars Technica’s Ars Live series will host a live discussion on October 7 at 3:30 pm ET with AI critic Ed Zitron to examine whether the current AI gold rush is a bubble that could burst, and if so, when.

Zitron, the host of the Better Offline podcast and CEO of EZPR, is known for his sharp scrutiny of OpenAI’s finances and the practical value of AI offerings. He also runs the Where’s Your Ed At newsletter, where he often questions the real-world ROI of AI deployments.

The conversation, moderated by Ars Technica’s Benj Edwards, will explore whether the AI investment surge reflects genuine business value, what happens when AI spending fails to deliver returns, and whether signs of a peak in the hype cycle are already visible. The dialogue will also offer an inside look at what it means to be a prominent—and sometimes controversial—AI critic amid industry mania.

Viewers can watch the discussion live on YouTube when the moment arrives, as Edwards draws on his coverage of the AI boom since ChatGPT’s debut to frame the discussion.

Join us for what organizers promise will be a lively debate on the sustainability of the current AI boom and its implications for investors, developers, and everyday users.
