According to Gartner’s IT Symposium keynote in Gold Coast, AI will pervade IT work by 2030.
Analysts Alicia Mullery and Daryl Plummer said that all IT activities will involve AI, moving from today’s 81% of work done without AI. They forecast that by 2030, 25% of IT tasks will be fully bot-driven, and the remaining 75% will be performed by humans with AI assistance.
Gartner emphasizes there won’t be an AI-sparked jobs bloodbath. They note that AI-related job losses currently account for roughly 1% of total losses, but entry-level IT roles may be reshaped or displaced as automation expands.
Citing Revelio Labs, highly AI-exposed entry-level jobs declined by more than 40% between January 2023 and July 2025, underscoring early impacts. Goldman Sachs Research has warned AI could displace 6-7% of the US workforce if broadly adopted, though they described the effect as likely temporary as new roles emerge.
Organizations are already applying AI across domains such as recruitment, journalism, customer service, and social media, while IT departments explore how AI-driven workflows can augment human work. Upskilling will be essential as AI becomes more integrated into everyday IT tasks.
