Metronet has announced a $48 million investment to expand its fiber-optic internet network across four Michigan communities: Jackson, Summit Township, Vandercook Lake, and Blackman Township. The initiative aims to bring ultra-high-speed broadband to homes and businesses in the region, further extending the company’s footprint in the state.
Construction is slated to begin this month, with the private funding directed toward deploying fiber across multiple neighborhoods as the backbone is extended and new drops are installed to reach residences and commercial sites.
Metronet described the expansion as part of a broader Michigan growth strategy and noted that it is actively building in more than 40 communities statewide. In addition to the four towns named in this project, construction is ongoing in Lansing, Grand Rapids, Portage and other Michigan locales as part of the company’s current expansion efforts.
Summit Township Supervisor John Griffin welcomed the investment, telling Metronet’s release that the private funding represents a meaningful opportunity for residents and local businesses. “We’re excited to see this kind of private investment in our community,” Griffin said, highlighting the role of high-speed internet in today’s daily life.
Metronet also highlighted its ongoing partnerships and service offerings. The company has a collaboration with T-Mobile Fiber, which markets plans starting at $55 per month. For local businesses, Metronet provides direct commercial services with speeds up to 10 Gbps, underscoring the network’s capacity to support advanced applications and growth in the region.
Overall, Metronet’s fiber reach now extends to more than 300 communities, reflecting its continued push to expand availability across Michigan and beyond. Construction in additional neighborhoods is expected to continue in the coming months as the company scales its fiber footprint across the state.
