TDS Telecom has agreed to acquire the fiber optic and voice operations of Granite State Communications, a New Hampshire-based independent telecom with roots dating back to 1877.
Under the purchase agreement, TDS will add more than 11,000 fiber addresses to its New Hampshire footprint, and the deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. TDS has operated in New Hampshire since 1970 and currently owns five local telephone companies in the state.
“This acquisition marks an exciting step forward in our mission to deliver world-class connectivity with an excellent customer experience,” said Drew Petersen, TDS Telecom’s senior vice president of corporate affairs.
Granite State Communications, which grew from four earlier local carriers—Chester, Sandown, Weare, and Triangle Telephone—has described itself as deeply invested in its network and communities. Granite State President Susan Rand King noted three generations of leadership and said the family believes TDS is the right partner for the next chapter, given the buyer’s commitment to New Hampshire and its track record of service. Christian Rand, Granite State’s vice president and chief strategy officer, added that continuity for customers remains a priority in the transition.
Officials did not disclose financial terms, but the transaction merges two adjacent NH providers under one roof and broadens TDS’s fiber reach by more than 11,000 service addresses.
