A new strategic alliance, SouthernWaves, unites Southern Telecom and Seimitsu to deliver lit fiber services across the Southeast U.S., with a focus on security, reliability, and simplified network management.

Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of Southern Company, and Savannah-based Seimitsu have announced SouthernWaves, a strategic alliance aimed at delivering lit fiber network services across the U.S. Southeast.

The collaboration marks a shift from traditional dark-fiber arrangements to lit services, with Seimitsu responsible for illuminating and managing bandwidth across Southern Telecom’s secured fiber routes installed in protected conduits, complemented by 24/7 monitoring from a Network Operations Center in Savannah.

One notable initiative involves a partnership with Georgia Power to serve the South Downtown Atlanta project, which envisions 56 buildings, 10 blocks and one million square feet being transformed into a second Atlanta Tech Village site. The effort underscores the role of a high-capacity fiber backbone in supporting data transfer, logistics, emergency response coordination and other essential services.

“This alliance brings together robust infrastructure and innovative cybersecurity to set a new standard for connectivity, security and reliability,” a Southern Telecom spokesperson said. “By combining our strengths, we aim to simplify network management for customers while enabling rapid deployment of advanced services.”

Under the arrangement, Seimitsu leads technology infrastructure, while Southern Telecom provides metro-fiber access. Georgia Power’s involvement strengthens the solution, enabling a comprehensive technology platform across the South Downtown area and beyond for commercial and civic use.

About Southern Telecom and Southern Company: Southern Telecom operates roughly 10,000 miles of fiber across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi and is part of Southern Company. Seimitsu, headquartered in Savannah, delivers fiber, managed IT and cybersecurity solutions with a regional footprint. Seimitsu’s 24/7 SOC supports incident response, forensics and advisory services.
