RtBrick has added timing and synchronization support to its disaggregated edge routing software, enabling sub-microsecond time and phase synchronization across IP networks. The new functionality timestamps packets as they are sent and received, enabling precise clock synchronization for applications such as mobile networks, industrial automation, and financial trading.
Until now, operators relied on proprietary routing hardware or external systems to realize accurate timing over broadband networks. RtBrick’s software-based approach, combined with open hardware, aims to reduce costs and increase operational flexibility for service providers looking to modernize their edge routing stacks.
Retailing timing support is early, with RtBrick’s features slated to debut on open switches from UfiSpace—the S9600-72XC and the S9600-102XC—both powered by Broadcom Q2C chipsets. UfiSpace collaborated with RtBrick to integrate hardware engineering and firmware elements required for precise timing operations.
Vincent Ho, Chief Executive Officer of UfiSpace, commented: “Adding timing to the existing rich set of features available in a disaggregated network fills in another piece of the puzzle for operators seeking to reduce costs and increase flexibility. Now, RtBrick is delivering an even deeper feature-set at its multiservice edge.”
The RtBrick timing feature-set includes support for:
- Precision Time Protocol (PTP) ITU-T G.8275.1 (PTP IEEE 1588-2008)
- Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) ITU-T G.8261 and G.8264
Hannes Gredler, RtBrick CTO and founder, added: “Our collaboration with UfiSpace demonstrates how the disaggregated ecosystem can deliver open solutions that cost less and are developed faster than traditional proprietary networking options. Providers should recognize that legacy routers have become a limiting factor, while software-based networks now offer the required features with greater flexibility.”
RtBrick is presenting this technology at Network X 2025 in Paris, France, October 14–16. Attendees are invited to visit the company’s booth (C15) to learn how its multiservice edge routing software is transforming networks for operators ranging from Deutsche Telekom to regional ISPs such as WOBCOM and Citynet.
About RtBrick: RtBrick Inc. has pioneered carrier routing software that runs on off-the-shelf hardware. It applies the same software-centric approach used by cloud-native providers to networks, enabling more flexible, cost-effective deployments. RtBrick is privately held, with teams across the USA, Europe, India and Taiwan.
