Mike Romano has been named as the next CEO of NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, succeeding Shirley Bloomfield as she retires.

The NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association announced that Mike Romano, the current executive vice president, will become chief executive officer next month, stepping into the role held by Shirley Bloomfield who has announced her retirement.

Romano is set to officially take over on March 15, continuing NTCA’s work to advocate for rural broadband and its member providers.

Romano has spent the past fifteen years working with smaller broadband operators delivering service to rural communities, gaining a firsthand understanding of how connectivity drives opportunity.

NTCA Chairman Ben Foster praised Romano, saying he knows NTCA and its member-driven approach and is well prepared to advocate for the industry and its communities.

Bloomfield, who has led the association for many years, said retirement was a difficult decision but noted the industry’s momentum and long-term strategic plan.

As Romano steps into the role, NTCA aims to continue advancing rural broadband as essential infrastructure, with the organization’s board and staff backing the transition.
