Mediacom announced that it has completed a major broadband upgrade in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, impacting more than 92,000 homes and businesses. The upgrade, built on the company’s fiber-rich network, introduces multi-gig and symmetrical service options for residents and local businesses.
According to the company, the rollout was performed without additional digging or cable burial, a tactic Mediacom says allowed for faster and less disruptive upgrades for customers.
The Xtream Internet lineup in Cedar Rapids now features a 300 Mbps down / 100 Mbps up tier, a 1 Gbps symmetrical plan, and a 2 Gbps down / 1 Gbps up tier. The upgraded architecture is designed to be scalable to 10 Gbps in the future, signaling a long-term approach to meeting growing bandwidth demand.
Steve Purcell, Group VP of Mediacom’s Capital Region, called the deployment a local win and said the company plans to extend multi-gig and symmetrical options to additional Iowa communities in the months ahead.
The company also noted that network work is underway in other regions, including suburban Des Moines, parts of Maryland and Delaware, the Florida Panhandle, the Minneapolis metro area and the Quad Cities, with a target of reaching 1 million households with enhanced services by the end of 2026.
