Harmonic and Comcast announce a joint effort to expand fiber broadband access using Harmonic’s cOS platform and Ripple DAA nodes to deliver multi-gigabit speeds with ultra-low latency.

Harmonic and Comcast announced a joint effort to accelerate fiber broadband access, leveraging Harmonic’s cOS™ virtualized platform and Ripple DAA nodes to deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds with ultra-low latency to residential and commercial customers.

The collaboration complements Comcast’s ongoing network expansion, which in 2024 added more than one million new locations and targets over 1.2 million additional sites by the end of 2025. The approach also enables fiber deployments in rural areas and BEAD-funded projects while co-existing with existing DOCSIS infrastructure on a single virtualized broadband platform.

Harmonic’s cOS platform, which includes a virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) and Jetty Remote Switch with Fin Remote OLT in Harmonic’s Ripple DAA node, provides a converged solution for multi-gigabit services, simplifying operations and reducing costs for fiber rollouts.

“We are rapidly expanding our network to new areas and by leveraging Harmonic’s cOS platform provides us with the flexibility to use fiber or extend our existing DOCSIS-based infrastructure to deliver critical connectivity to homes and businesses,” said Dan Rice, vice president of Access Engineering at Comcast. “Introducing multi-gigabit Internet with low lag will open up a new world of opportunities for these areas and our ecosystem of partners like Harmonic is instrumental in making that possible.”

“Our partnership with Comcast is consistently driving industry progress,” said Asaf Matatyaou, senior vice president, product at Harmonic. “Together, we are demonstrating how DOCSIS and fiber can seamlessly co-exist on a virtualized broadband platform to deliver multi-gigabit speeds, ultra-low latency and exceptionally reliable connectivity to more communities.”

Harmonic notes its leadership position in cable broadband equipment and DAA, with its cOS platform powering more than 35 million customer CPE devices worldwide across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
