Astound today announced the launch of a new fixed wireless network that will serve more than 26,000 homes across Davis and portions of Yolo and Placer counties in Northern California, effective immediately. The rollout includes more than 2,000 homes in rural areas that historically lacked access to high-speed internet and Wi-Fi.
The fixed wireless service offers speeds up to 500 Mbps with low latency and professionally installed equipment, designed to deliver reliable connectivity in real-world conditions such as dense trees, hills, and long distances from fiber hubs. Astound emphasizes that this option provides a stable alternative to mobile or satellite services while bridging the digital divide.
Deployment can be completed in days by leveraging existing towers and poles, avoiding protracted fiber construction timelines. The network is intended to complement Astound’s established fiber network and extend high-quality connectivity to homes without direct fiber access.
“Davis is a vibrant market, and this offering lets us enter not only this city but also other communities in Yolo and Placer counties by providing immediate access to fast, reliable connectivity at strong value,” said Jared Sonne, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Astound West Region. “Fixed wireless is a practical solution for growing suburbs and rural towns across Northern California and supports remote work, online learning, telehealth, and everyday digital life.”
Astound describes the expansion as part of its broader commitment to bridge the digital divide and bring connectivity to communities that have long faced limited options. In addition to Davis, service availability extends to nearby towns including Penryn, Auburn, Newcastle, Lincoln, Granite Bay, and Roseville, as well as other areas within Yolo and Placer counties.
